Excursions for schools of all levels
Borgo Di Mare organizes specific outings for schools of all levels. The visit consists of an introduction of the history of the island followed by a video of the development of the archaeologic excavations in the Bay of Cartaromana, where the remains of an ancient Roman settlement called Aenaria buried in our sea by geological and seismic events were brought to light. A glass bottomed boat, a short walk from the multimedia centre, enables visitors to explore the submerged site and the sea-bed of the Bay of Cartaromana, with its distinctive lush Posidonia Oceanica meadow and gaseous emissions, a typical phenomenon of secondary volcanism.
During the boat tour the guides will explain the history of the Bay and the historical monuments surrounding it (Castello Aragonese, Torre Guevara, Chiesa di Sant'Anna) in order to introduce the younger generations to the main events of the island history and the marine environment, encouraging them adopt behavioural models towards conserving their natural and historic heritages. For preschool classes the introductory video will be substituted with the story of Musculus the mouse, the main character of the adventures/misadventures that will take him to Aenaria and learn about the history of the island.
On request, the visit can be integrated with the local fishing traditions or the techniques employed in the archaeological excavations with in-field based simulations.
